Monkey Bars Buying Guide: Choosing a BERG PlayBase

Four decisions: which frame, which ends, frame-only or a set, and what to hang from it. This page covers each, with current prices.

    What the PlayBase is

The BERG PlayBase is a steel frame, powder-coated over a zinc layer, with a run of monkey-bar rungs across the top. Accessories hang from carabiner points on the frame and can be swapped. It comes in Black or Green. Every frame is 1m deep and 2.45m high, has a 400kg maximum total load, is CE marked and is for ages 3 and up. The frame warranty is 10 years, or 13 years when you register it with BERG. A steel frame needs no treating or staining.

    1. Which frame

The frames differ in width, and width decides two things: how long the monkey-bar run is and how many carabiner points you get for accessories.

Wall-mounted or free-standing. The Wall frame is 1.2m wide and fixes to a load-bearing brick or block wall: a house, garage or solid shed. It cannot go on a fence, timber panel or hollow partition. The Medium, Large and Extra Large are free-standing, held by base sections anchored in the ground. No concrete is needed.

BERG's manual gives the free space each frame needs. We check it against your garden in the free consultation.

    2. Which ends: TL, TT or LL

Each end of a free-standing frame is either a tumble bar or a ladder. The Medium and Large are sold in all three combinations, at different prices.

TLOne tumble bar and one ladder. The most popular choice.€1,499€1,749
    TTTwo tumble bars.€1,349€1,599
LLTwo ladders. The one to pick for monkey-bar style climbing, with a ladder up at each end of the rungs.€1,649€1,899

    3. Frame only, or a ready-made set

A set is a frame plus a group of accessories sold as one product. There are 15 of them across six types (Swing, Family, Active, Sports, Peak and Ultimate), from €1,038 to €2,765. Not every set is sold with every frame.

The alternative is to buy the frame on its own and add accessories one at a time, from €29. Because accessories can be swapped, you can add to either later.
